The Wuling Hongguang achieves a perfect balance between power and economy, with impressive performance in handling and safety, challenging traditional perceptions of commercial vehicles.

Renowned for its small displacement, clever design, exquisite interior, and robust power across various segments, the Wuling Hongguang has carved out a new niche in the commercial vehicle market. “Compact, refined, and practical” is the unanimous praise from industry insiders for the Wuling Hongguang.

Description

The Wuling Hongguang boasts a bold exterior that blends popular elements seamlessly. It adopts the trendy dual-U front face design and a three-dimensional waterfall-style chrome grille, enhancing the front end’s stylish and dynamic appearance while inheriting certain features from the GM series. Eye-catching eagle-eye crystal diamond headlights and feather-shaped crystal diamond front fog lights further elevate the vehicle’s sophistication. Two robust lines rise from the engine hood, exuding a sense of power. The Wuling Hongguang’s body features no gimmicky designs, embodying the dignified demeanor expected of a commercial vehicle. Its streamlined body design achieves an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.36, not only aiding fuel efficiency but also effectively reducing noise during travel, thus enhancing passenger comfort. The large rooftop luggage rack underscores the multifunctionality of this compact commercial vehicle, while the integrated curved rear wing at the rear of the vehicle reduces turbulence during travel and provides appropriate downforce. The dynamic waistline and sleek skirt line on the sides add depth to the body’s profile, resulting in a more fluid and layered appearance.

Highlighted Features

The Wuling Hongguang boasts abundant power and solid handling. It comes equipped with two engine options: the P-TEC 1.2L and the 1.5L-DVVT, both designed and manufactured to GM’s global powertrain standards. These engines feature a rare dual overhead camshaft design for small-displacement engines, ensuring ample power while demonstrating excellent fuel efficiency, thereby reducing overall vehicle operating costs. The P-TEC 1.2L engine, a recipient of the “2009 China’s Top Ten Engines” award, delivers a high output of 52.2 kW. Meanwhile, the 1.5L engine is one of SAIC-GM-Wuling’s latest high-performance engines, with specifications comparable to a 1.6L engine, boasting a maximum power of 75 kW at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 146 N·m at 4200 rpm, with significant improvements in torque, noise reduction, and lifespan. The Wuling Hongguang equipped with the P-TEC 1.5L engine can reach a top speed of 160 km/h and has a combined fuel consumption of just 7.2L per 100 kilometers. Its five-link swing arm rear suspension system provides excellent shock absorption, while the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a 45:55 front-to-rear axle load distribution ensures balanced grip for all four wheels, especially evident when climbing slopes.

To surpass products in the same price range in terms of handling and driving stability, SAIC-GM-Wuling enlisted Lotus Engineering, UK, to fine-tune the Hongguang’s suspension system. After a year and a half of development and three phases of tuning, the Wuling Hongguang finally achieved a balance between handling and comfort.

In terms of safety, the Wuling Hongguang prioritizes advanced craftsmanship in its body structure. Adopting the TUD (TOTAL-USEDDESIGN) design concept, the vehicle ensures a rational structural layout. Key body components are made of high-strength steel, accounting for over 80% of the body’s composition. The B-pillars are reinforced with high-strength steel plates, forming a sturdy support structure for the side panels. Laser-welded plates, a feature uncommon even in vehicles costing over 100,000 yuan, are used on both front and rear door inner panels, significantly enhancing overall door rigidity and strength while effectively reducing vehicle weight and fuel consumption.

In terms of safety features, the Wuling Hongguang sets the benchmark with higher-level models, offering a rich array of safety equipment including ABS+EBD, dual airbags, force-limiting seat belts, LED high-mount stop lamp, rear parking sensors, rear window defroster, rear wiper, child safety locks on the middle doors, automatic door lock function, headlamp/door-open warning, remote key with electronic anti-theft system and automatic car finding function, placing it at an absolute leading level among vehicles in the same price range.
