The Wuling Hongguang S3 is a completely new upgraded product based on the Hongguang S. The Hongguang S3 was officially launched on November 10, 2017, with a total of 5 models available in 1.5L and 1.5T displacements.

On March 6, 2019, the Wuling Hongguang S3 automatic clutch version was officially launched, including two models: the Comfort and Luxury variants, both equipped with a 1.5L 6-speed manual transmission automatic clutch.

Positioned as an upgraded version of the Hongguang S, the Hongguang S3 maintains the exterior design and 2+2+3 seating layout of its predecessor. However, significant upgrades are evident in the Hongguang S3, such as interior design, materials, and the ability to completely flatten the rear cargo area. Compared to the Hongguang S, the Hongguang S3 can be considered a comprehensive upgrade, further extending the Wuling Hongguang series lineup.

As the first SUV launched by SAIC-GM-Wuling, the market will assess the strength of the Wuling Hongguang. In terms of configuration, the Hongguang S3 offers everything expected at its price point, with all 5 models equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, maintaining excellent value for money.

The appearance and interior of the Wuling Hongguang S3 automatic clutch version remain consistent with the current model. The most significant change is the addition of an automatic clutch mechanism, which can replace the action of pressing the clutch pedal, automatically engaging and disengaging the clutch.

Description

The automatic clutch used in the Hongguang S3 is sourced from Schaeffler, a German company renowned for producing engines and transmissions. Schaeffler’s products are known for their outstanding quality and are widely utilized in vehicles across various brands such as General Motors, Volkswagen, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.

The sensor installed within the gear lever identifies the driver’s intention to shift gears, controlling the hydraulic actuator to engage and disengage the clutch, thus completing the shifting process.

Compared to manual transmission, this system reduces the complexity of driving while still retaining some driving enjoyment. Schaeffler conducts rigorous durability tests on their automatic clutch systems. The Wuling Hongguang S3 equipped with the automatic clutch system underwent extensive adaptability testing in China, including tests for high altitude, high temperature, and extreme cold, as well as a comprehensive 40,000-kilometer durability test for the entire vehicle, ensuring the reliability of the automatic clutch system.

The Hongguang S3 offers spacious and comfortable interior cabin space, with dimensions measuring 4655mm in length, 1735mm in width, and 1780mm in height (1790mm for the high-end version). The side profile features smoked black BCD pillars, coupled with a long wheelbase of 2800mm, delivering exceptional space and natural comfort for passengers. Compared to the Hongguang S, the S3 model introduces additional storage spaces such as front seat back pockets, card slots, a secondary instrument panel storage box, and middle row seat cushion storage boxes, providing convenient storage solutions for various small items and enhancing overall user experience. Not only does the interior offer abundant storage space, but the trunk is also generously sized, capable of accommodating four 20-inch suitcases.
